The Central
Namibian Coast, - its major towns being Walvis Bay,
Swakopmund, and Henties Bay, - forms the western part of
the
Erongo Region. Dominant landscape features are the
wind-swept gravel plains, sand dunes, and rocky outcrops of the
Namib Desert that meets the South Atlantic Ocean with
broad sandy beaches.
Even though
too cold for swimming during most of the year and creating coastal
climate conditions contrary to those in Namibia's interior,
these ocean waters sustain natural treasures which made the
central part of the coastal Namib the country's most attractive
leisure holiday destination. Soft adventures and sports activities

...conceivable kind can be found next to amazing varieties of
birds and wildlife, in the sea, on land, and in the air.
All this is
coupled with the beautifully maintained architecture of a thrilling historic past,
with vibrant modern industries and retail businesses,
interesting
museums, art galleries, book shops and craft markets, a modern infrastructure,
and plenty of sightseeing opportunities in and around the
coastal
towns.
Swakopmund with
its beach promenades, palm-tree shaded gardens, cosy street-side
cafés and shops stocking inspiring Namibian as well as Southern
African books and art works has got an almost Mediterranean flair and tourist facilities
to match.
Accommodation
- activity & touring - transport options in the coastal area of the Erongo Region
Tourist
accommodation establishments ranging from self-catering holiday
flats, B & B's and sophisticated guesthouses to 4/5-star hotels with
in-house gyms and casinos cater for any taste and travel budget.
The same
applies to activity and excursion options whose number also
exploded, since Namibia became an insider tip for anyone keen to
spend active holidays. Soft adventures on guided 4x4 excursions into
the Namib Desert; boating trips for marine life encounters and
serious fishing actions; sports activities for family fun hours and
for testing ones skills in rock climbing and sky-diving; ocean
kayaking amongst seals; chartering a small aircraft for a bird's eye
view of the desert's dune fields and famous ships wrecks; exploring
geological phenomena and pre-historic rock art sites; roughing it in
the wild ... Swakopmund and its surroundings have it all!
