When Sasendle was finally holding all the necessary documentations,
after going through the complex tour operator licensing and
accreditation processes in South Africa and Namibia since 2008, it
was time to turn our attention to development issues again.
Here is what we did for 'development' since April 2009:

again not much luck weather-wise to provide photographic proof of
the sunny, cloudless conditions that prevail during the remaining
300 days per year. |

After one year of
successful co-operation with our marketing team based in
Namibia, it was time to review promotion strategies for the
coming 12 months and to renew contracts in line with these.
Marketing activities handled by Lisa will focus entirely on
establishing new and growing existing trade partnerships, during
the year ahead, as well as on keeping tourism trade partners
updated about details regarding Sasendle's 4x4 safari products -
predominantly through email contacts.
Inge will take over the entire copywriting and content creation
process for our product manual, next to the production and email
distribution of the SAT Newsletter. In addition, she will drive
the on-line promotion activities with the aim of growing our
internet presence.
We will thus continue to emphasise our commitment to focus on
environmentally responsible activities in all our business and
tour operations.

In time for Indaba
2009, Sasendle developed another range of tour products for
4x4 enthusiasts that is bound to prove very popular:
Our Cape-to-Namibia
Explorer & Namibia-Kalahari-Cape Discovery
Land Rover Safaris are now also available on a guided
self-drive basis! As with their guided versions, guests
have a choice of making use of our set scheduled departure dates
in 2009 and 2010, or of requesting individual dates.
More about
SAT's Guided Self-drive 4x4 Safaris...
We initially
thought of offering the same kind of guided self-drive
alternatives for our
short regional 4x4 safaris from/to Cape
Town but a test run unfortunately revealed that some
of the particularly scenic back roads we selected are not
suitable for rented vehicles.
Interested parties with own 4x4 vehicles are however
welcome to request tailor-made arrangements from SAT for
exploring some of the remoter areas of the Western Cape in the
company of a Sasendle guide leading the way with one of our Land
Rovers.

Marcelle, SAT's
Office Manager, and Wimpie, one of our regular freelance guides,
were invited by Leading Lodges of Namibia for an educational
visit. An action-packed programme lead them to the group's lodge
in the south near Sesriem, Le Mirage, to Swakopmund and
Windhoek, where Marcelle and Wimpie also had the opportunity to
visit Namibia's very own annual tourism fair, the Holiday &
Travel Expo.
SAT Chief,
Nico, used his own visit of Northern Namibia during the same
period to test-drive the route through the Etosha National Park
from it's most north-eastern King Nehale Gate all the way south
to the Andersson Gate. He also inspected Naua Naua Game Lodge
situated just south of the park, and various accommodation
options in the Erongo Mountains.

The Sasendle team
used the long Easter weekend to investigate the conditions of
some secondary roads in and around the South African part of the
Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.
In spite of unexpected late summer rainfalls spoiling our good
intensions for also taking home some great new photos, we are
happy to report that we found a very scenic back-up route
through the southern part of the park and around its eastern
side to the South African/Namibian border post at Noordoewer -
just in case that any of
our cross-border safaris should
ever be affected by an interruption of the ferry services across
the Gariep River at Sendelingsdrift.
At the same time, we
also wanted to check out whether there are new tourist
accommodation developments already underway in the immediate
vicinity of the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park but did not find
any.
Our preferred overnight stop closed to the park therefore
remains the beautiful Naries Namakwa Retreat that is featured
with a small brochure on our
